Going bankrupt for bad financial decisions ( like going on a Caribbean vacation on a credit card while not having a decent job) isn’t immoral. Going bankrupt for medical reasons like cancer, shame on the system…

Wait til Biden's insane spending wipes out everyone's savings with inflation and makes it impossible to buy a home or anything else. THEN watch the bankruptcies roll in, while REITs and VC firms buy up all the residential real estate. Its already started.

In America most bankruptcies are medical and happen after someone has retired from earning, maybe because of age or health, and more dependant on a system which is set up to pillage your golden years rather than eaze you through them. ... And more and more suicides can be linked to demoralizing bankruptcy laws.

The bankruptcy laws left the loopholes for billionaires like Trump who has used it numerous times but stopped it for poor people who really needed it. Particularly medical and student debt.

the united states is an elitist shit hole where the rich get richer off the suffering of people left out to die once they're used up. the nation as a whole deserves to go under and be absorbed by Canada and Mexico, at least that way the people will have some protection from the actions of the politicians that are in the pockets of the corporations and no none of us are fooled.

The credit card companies are the banks, institutions that never lose money. They give almost nothing for our bank accounts but soak us with loans and interest rates. The banks are not your friends. The evil of compound interest that the banks so much enjoy should be condemned and outlawed. The best solution is not use credit cards at all but if you have to use the card make sure you pay it off at the end of the month. Don't give the banks that interest cash!

That man feeding the hot dogs to the raccoons looked so happy! Also, it's ridiculous people have to pay for bankruptcy. I think Warren's bill sounds great-- better than what we have going on right now. I believe the stigma around bankruptcy stems from the belief we shouldn't get help from the government. So to combat the stigma around bankruptcy, we need to accept that it's okay to get help. Sadly, not everyone has done that yet, and even I have to remind myself I need help sometimes, but if we confront the stereotypes, we can change more people's minds.

Honestly couldn't relate to the student debt, Canada for a bachelors degree in Ottawa its about 40k, 10k ishh a year if you live with parents. OSAP essentially gives it all to you, and 4k is a bursary. They have found some decent stats that showed for every dollar spent they get n more dollars back into the economy, when tax money pays for higher education. As much as the gov here is slow gotta appreciate what you have sometimes.

Also, my mom went bankrupt when I was 2 in 1996 when my dad took everything from her and she still doesn't have the credit to get a mortgage for a house. I will say that the Credit Counseling Course I sought out (not required to take) was extremely helpful. They got my payments down to a single, manageable monthly payment, they provided me the actual TEXT BOOK (minus cost of s&h) and I learned a duck-ton of info on credit cards, credit scores, student loans, personal loans, and even things that as a millennial I have no interest in like mortgages. Then when I completed the course I kept my payments, they got two of my creditors to discharge my debt completely, added a note to my report that I passed the course and I am now well on my way to rebuilding my score. Last but not least Elizabeth Warren had my vote before she ran for any office. I was ecstatic when she became one of my Senators and over-joyed when she decided to run for President. I saw her in the documentary "Maxed Out" as the Harvard Law Professor and she instantly won me over. I have been following her ever since.

Things are no different in Canada. Just different name. I had to file after my house burned down. My ex, with whom I’d shared 50/50 custody of our children, saw the loss of my house an an opportunity to try and strong-arm the children away from me. She bought a house in a city 5 hours away and moved our children there. I had to fight her 2 years in court not to lose my kids, all while trying to put our lives together. We lived in our rebuilt home less than a year before I defaulted on my house payments. 2 years later I lost my job, during Covid, and I haven’t been able to find work since. Now my “chapter 13” (called differently here) will likely turn in a “chapter 7”. Had I just filed chapter 7 from the start, I’d be clear by now. But because I was making “good money” prior to losing my job, I was told I was too “wealthy” to file. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I worked at an American bank. I talked to people every single day going bankrupt. I also talked to people every single day BEGGING for money for medical bills. Often these people were insured with ridiculous exclusions or policy loopholes. Here's a 100% true story. This guy had a promo for 0% interest on a card. He took the $50,000 cash and invested it in some investment vehicle like a bond with low risk but he'd profit a bit from it. He was in a car accident and slipped into a coma for 2 months. He missed 2 payments and triggered a rate change from 0% to 29.99% retroactive to the beginning of the loan. 50k @ 29.99% retro for 18 months. Roughly $27,000 in interest.

I had a friend in Florida who had to file after his divorce. His lawyer told him to go ahead and max out his credit cards before he files. It won't make a difference in the end. That lawyer was shit. My exposure to bankruptcy came when I went as moral support with a different friend. She was also divorced and scared to go alone. So many people went before the judge with creditors sitting there looking to reposes property. The judge asks if the property is available and the people say no. "Where is it?" "I gave it away" and the judge and creditors just shake their heads. My friend went up. Sears wanted a small dresser, a cordless phone and a boom box back. The judge asked if they were available and she said yes. The judge sat back surprised like she slapped him. the bankruptcy breezed through. She drove 40 miles home from the hearing in Tampa Florida to the phone ringing. She ran to answer it and it was Sears looking for a payment for the first time in 6 months since they had to stop calling when she filed. They denied knowing of the bankruptcy even though they stopped calling when they got served notice when she filed and their representative was in federal court to reposes her stuff an hour before. In court, Sears lady asked her lawyer if she could contact his client directly for pickup. She said they could. The next day, the Sears lady called and my friend said NO! The Sears lady said, "But you agreed in court to return the property." and my friend said, "And the law says I can collect $500 from you for every time you call demanding a payment AFTER my lawyer serves you notice of my filing. I got home an hour after I saw you yesterday to my phone ringing from your collector calling for the first time in 6 months looking for a payment. That tell me that she knew I filed. She denied any record of my filing. I have the call still on my caller ID from Sears that I will show to my lawyer if I get another call! You can either send me a $500 check or your truck driver can come out here anytime tomorrow for pickup WITH A SIGNED LETTER FROM YOU acknowledging the finality of my bankruptcy. Your choice!" The driver showed up letter in hand. Not long after that, Sears was fined several million dollars in federal court for just that practice of pressuring people, whose debts had been discharged, into making payments. K Mart's buy out was the final nail in Sears' coffin.

That must have been LONG ago - no creditors show up in Court asking for piddling used products back (except cars and houses). Not in Arizona anyway. And violations of the automatic stay (i.e., can't call debtors) don't respond to a demand from the debtor for a $500 check. Interesting story though, the little guy should get some power over the greedy corporations!

Three books [1][2][3] and two Free Online [4][5], unequivocally prove that when idiot-politicians appoint themselves superior over science, people become victims, many die helplessly. Hitler burned Einstein's top science books in Germany and fired all jewish professors [1], murdered 6 million, caused ~100 million killed in WW-II and causing talent empty post-war German universities - a set trend, understand not science, attack authors of new ideas. Non-Scientist, German leader today, KURZGESAGT, publishes endless science online booklets based on her "German Love'', further deepens emptiness. "No-need to be scientist" to replace scientists, some of her ONE-LINE followers claim, yet, CAN'T WRITE MORE THAN A LINE, NOR READ A FEW, WHILE TAINTING THIS CIVILIZATION. Same trend. The most upsetting thing about this piece was learning that houses are sub 100k in the US. Im not even in a very nice city in canada and sub 3- 500k is uncommon.

IKR a $100 000 home in a relatively rural area like mine gets you a shady crack "house", nothing most people would call acceptable. Or a really shitty mobile home...

sadly it's the same in canada where you declare bankruptcy within 3 weeks you'll have a new card offer in the mail been that way since the early 2000s it's like bankruptcy no longer means anything these days. Also for 10:57 the claim that bankruptcy is a repeat offender which is highly false here. Of those who claim bankruptcy in canada it's like what 15% of those who claimed it the first time. The only thing that's on the rise is people who claim it more then 4 times since they know how to play the system that's when a judge steps in. Most people here see it as a last resort.

Suze is a racist. Don't worry a lot of these systems will be replaced with crypto currencies, due to crypto contracts the people become lenders not the bankers. We will remove bankers from the system.

Bad debt takes a borrower and a lender. Ya we all pay for it; we all pay to subsidize risky lending.

I have a feeling that this "once-in-a-century pandemic" is going to become like the "hundred-year flood".
